I kinda dropped off the face of the planet there for a while, didn’t I. I have a good excuse. Promise.
Chickpea (my nine month old baby girl) stopped sleeping. Now, she’s never been a great sleeper from day one, and has had to battle with some nasty illness along the way (suspected pneumonia, chronic asthma, tibial torsion) and I know every baby in the world gives their parents some sleepless nights, but Chickpea decided to dedicated her days and nights to being awake. This meant she would only catnap for twenty minutes or so at a time. The mums out there will understand how exhausted I am. I feel like I’m existing in a grey fog all day and a drunk fuzz at night. My speech is slurred, I stumble over nothing when I walk, trip often, find it difficult to finish sentences and have extreme difficulty concentrating on anything. Poor Peanut is also suffering, because I’m so tired I have no patience for normal 4 year-old behaviour and all I seem to be doing is yelling at her. I can, in all honesty say, I have never felt so emotionally unbalanced as I do right now.
Chickpea’s sleeplessness has become so bad we’ve needed to see a specialist and am currently under the care of Australia’s leading baby and child expert, Sheyne Rowley. Sheyne is a miracle worker. Chickpea’s “resetting” begins on Monday and I know, know, know the Couper household will be a happier place. Sheyne assures us Chickpea will be sleeping the night through (7pm-6am) by the third night, maybe even earlier.
I’m very sorry I’ve been MIA, and I hope everyone understands. I’ve been trying to keep going, but everything just crashed down on top of me last week when not just Peanut, but Chickpea came down with the flu. It was too much and I had to put somethings aside. My blog was one of them.
But, I’m kinda, sorta back now. With things to catch up on and announcements to make. Yay!
Keep watching this space for the winner of my June contest, my Ellora’s Cave blurb and release date, this month’s Eight Ridiculous Questions and an excerpt from my next release, Stone’s Soul.
I hope everyone has been wonderful, and I thank you all for your understanding.

I’m glad there is light at the end of your tunnel. I remember six weeks of not just no sleep but screaming. And with a 17 month old and a 4 yo the new born was the child from hell. Things will get better, and we do what we have to and what isn’t ‘important’ gets put aside. We’ll see you when you can find the time and the energy.

I always felt so bad when my mom would tell me that as a baby I had colic for 8 weeks straight. I was so blessed with twins who actually slept through the night (the same night too!) at 6 weeks old. Couldn’t believe how good it felt to finally sleep more than 3 hours at a time.
Sending all positive vibes your way, that the third night is the magical night for you.
Thanks, Cathy. Y’know, every one tells you you’re not going to get any sleep with babies in the house and, after Peanut (who wasn’t a good sleeper either) I seriously thought I was prepared. But whoa – Chickpea really threw us all for a six!
I envy you, and am in awe of you. Anyone who can survive twins is a wonderwoman in my books 🙂
Rhain – my heart goes out to you. I’m getting the feeling you know exactly what I’ve been going through. All I can say is, thank God babies know how to smile at us 🙂
And Chickpea looked so happy and smiley in that picture you possted for us before disappearing off of the radar.
I’m just very glad she’s better now.
